MMR stands for Measles, Mumps, and Rubella — three viral infections that can cause serious health complications. The MMR vaccine is a combined vaccine that protects against all three.
The Measles vaccine is given as part of the MMR vaccine. It provides long-lasting protection and helps prevent outbreaks.
Recommended Schedule:
1st dose: 9–12 months of age
2nd dose: 15–18 months of age
3rd dose: 4–6 years of age
Each dose strengthens and extends protection against Measles.
Adults who haven’t received the Measles vaccine or never had the infection should get vaccinated.
1st dose: Anytime (if not previously vaccinated)
2nd dose: 28 days after the first dose
There is no upper age limit for receiving the MMR vaccine.
Consider the following before vaccination:
Age: Children – 9–12 months (first dose), 15–18 months (second), 4–6 years (third);
Adults – Two doses, 28 days apart.
Current health: Delay vaccination if you have a moderate or severe illness with fever.
Allergies: Avoid if you’ve had a severe allergic reaction to a previous dose or ingredients (e.g., gelatin, neomycin).
Immunity status: Not advised for people with severe immune suppression; in mild cases (like treated HIV or steroid use), it may be given under doctor supervision.
Pregnancy: Not recommended during pregnancy. Avoid conception for 4 weeks after vaccination.
Previous vaccination or infection: Consult your doctor before repeating doses.
The vaccine is safe and effective, though mild and temporary side effects may occur:
Mild pain, swelling, or redness at the injection site
Slight tiredness or dizziness
Low-grade fever (resolves with rest and fluids)
Mild muscle aches
